1.  What are the entry requirements?   

Pre-med coursework:  General Biology (1 year, with lab), Inorganic Chemistry (1 year, with lab), Organic Chemistry (1 year, with lab), Language Arts (English), College Math or Computer Science (1/2 year)

Undergraduate studies: Applicants are expected to have a minimum of three years of undergraduate studies or the equivalent of 90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours, including pre-medical requirements from an accredited college or university

Applicants whose principal language is not English may be required to take the test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

2.  How do you prepare students for the USMLE Step 1?   

Our diagnostic pre-test to identify learning goals, along with consistent support from our experienced faculty and a simulated exam in our state-of-the-art test center, help our students achieve exceptional results in the USMLE Step 1.

The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 is a critical step toward licensure. It assesses your ability to apply medical knowledge, as well as your patient-focused skills to ensure that you are fit to practice safe and effective medical care.  

3.  Where do students do their clinical rotations?  

We have been supporting U.S. students for many years in securing the best clinical rotations across Canada and North America. St. Matthew's University School of Medicine students do all their core clinical rotations at credentialed teaching hospitals and are eligible to participate in both the U.S. National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS).  

4.  Will I be able to secure a residency after graduation? 

St. Matthew's University School of Medicine students obtain residencies in competitive programs across the full range of medical specialties in the U.S. and Canada. Many of St. Matthew's University graduates excel in their residencies, becoming Chief Residents, and many pursue Fellowship opportunities following residency.

The entire campus is wireless. First semester students live in comfortable dorms just minutes away from the classrooms. 

6.  What is Grand Cayman Island like to live on? 

Grand Cayman is a beautiful, safe and easy country with white sand beaches, historic inns and world-class restaurants. Housing and living costs in Grand Cayman are very reasonable. Local grocery stores stock food items to meet the full range of dietary needs. The school enjoys good relations with the local population. When not studying, there is always plenty to do, from hiking to deep-sea diving.

Clinical Medicine Rotations

In your clinical education – Semesters 6 though 10 – you switch gears, moving from the world of the classroom and theory to the patient's bedside and the life and death decisions of real medicine. Complete your elective rotations at many first in class hospitals like John Hopkins.

Third Year Core Rotations cover five specialties:

St. Matthew's University School of Medicine has affiliation agreements for core clerkships with more than twenty-five teaching hospitals in both the United States and United Kingdom. In the United States, core rotations may be completed in the following states: Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Virginia.
